History:
Same as their masters - orcs - wargs are rough and bit unpolished species. Their hisotry is very simple, as you would imagine. Orcs found large wolf-like creature and thought to themself: it would be nice to ride on this! And domestication started. It didn't took long (orcish chronicles say slightly over 200years) and wargs, as we know them now, were born. The species haven't change much since then, as it was and still is perfect for what orcs do: practical, fast ride and ferocious fight. No orc was keen to keep breeding books or breed wargs for fanciness, so wargs were bred willynilly without beraly any system. Sometimes were inbred, but most of inbreds were fisrt ones to die in battles. Thanks to test through fight, in the end only best wargs survived in orcish hazardous lifestyle.
One of reasons, why orcs didn't feel need to selectively breed wargs, is because of perks. It is possible, that orcs are directly responsible for art of perking on Cesferus, as they perked their wargs sometime into horrendous creatuers. This 'mutating' wasn't genetically heritable, so each new offspring, no matter it's qualities, was perked to be better, stronger, deadlier without need of polishing of the base warg species.
Wargs haven't spread that much, but they got onto Coldaira in 3rd era with orcish refugees. Wood elves, who were first to accept orcish refugees, were also first to keep some warg pups. Later on orcs moved north, and sattled down at south of Land of Dawn, in Warm marshes area, where no hummans wanted to inhabit.
From thie area wargs for Coldaira are exported as exotic pet or efficient guard dogs. Thus the name 'Warmarsh warg' even though there is only one subspecies and breed of wargs.
Breeds:
In terms of administrative no registered breeds exist, but we do distinct few dominant features. Mainly length of fur. There are longfur and shortfur wargs. Longfur wargs have warm, rich fur and are sharing more of wolflike features and they were used mostly by orcs living further south on Terrateka, where enviroment is colder.
Shortfur wargs are from warmer areas. Their physical statures is often somewhat resembling dog/hyena hybrid with short fur.
There's also bald variant of warg, which was prized for it's nasty and horrendous fearsome looks.
But overall wargs cannot be distinguished into specific breeds, simply becuase there's no pure breed warg kind. They all are mixture of any kind of warg that was avaliable. Plus orcs do not want wargs to be classified into breeds anyways, as they like the simplicity in this lack of system.
General behavior:
Wargs are smart and social creatures. Since there's barely any feral wargs left, let's talk about domestic behavior. The highest need is socialisation. Warg can literally go crazy and die of loneliness if there's not other animal/creature on similar or higher mental capabilities. Wargs do best in pack of other wargs, but same joy they feel from company of other canine creatures or atleast humannoid companion that is dear to warg.
It's very similar to domestic dogs. Also wargs have alphas in their packs and wolf-like hierarchy, so disputes over alpha status might occure.
Stable requirements:
Best is keeping group in fenced paddock, so wargs cannot run away chasing random animals that appear near to them. For placing of paddock, anything not too steep will do. Wargs like to run around, so the paddock should be either big enough or they have to be walked often. For bedding, some wargs do just fine sleeping outside, but it is reccomanded to give them atleast wooden shelter with bedding.

TRIVIA

  • I like Lord of the rings, and I won't be ashamed for getting heavily inspired from there. Tho I made them less disgusting and more dog-like, so another note needs to be done towards World of Warcraft, where are ridable wargs very wolf-like
  • The most perked/transmoged warg so far is Erumeran owned by Nerissien
  • First long fur warg was created to reseble oversized version of little white dog character
