Wild behavior:
Social, herd living, forever grazing harbivore. Herds count 14 animals, which
are mostly females. Adult bulls are solitary and dominant bulls mark their
teriotirum with urine and dung. Subordinate males don't mark teritory, and
domantns ones patrol their very carefully. Most serious fight are over mating
right with female. Female territory overlaps extensivly, but females don't
defend it.
Females sexually mature around 6-7yo, males reach maturity in 10-12yo. Mating
ritual is rahter complicated, as male stays safely beyond point of female
starting to behave agressivlly. He will announce his presence by a call first.
Then he chases female or blocks her way, so he prevents her leaving his
teritory. After mating pair stays together for 5-20 days.
Female is pregnant for 16 months and she gives birth to single calf, which is
unstable for first three days. If threatened, mother defends her calf fiercly.
Rayncero in agrresive stance will lower it's head and open up wings into
collar to make itself even bigger.
Female is ready to mate every three years. Before giving birth to another
calf, she chases away the current one.
Adult rhinos have no natural predator, due their size and thick skin.
Domestic behavior:
In domesticity is kept structure of wild herd. Males are kept in separate
paddocks, geldings can be kept with females. Domestic raynos are used on
humanoid presence. Rhinos will graze or rest, wallow in mud.
The territary marking behavior is not present if there's fence around paddock.
If herds are kept without fence, it occurs again.
Female with calf taken away from (for milking) is calm as long as she can see
it and calf not being harmed.
Stable requirements:
In warm enough enviroment raynos don't need stables. Few big paddocks with
grass and mud to roll in will do ust fine. Raynos drik only twice a day, as
they are used on hot and dry enviroment.
In colder enviroment winter stables with straw bedding will do fine, but they
will get nervous if kept there for longer periods.
TRIVIA
- Original idea was created by former very active member of WoC Myval-miki back in 2016.
- In first versions raynos were far less natural in their color options.
-
Raynos are heavily based on white rhinoceros.
- Raynos are kept by ogres as regular human would keep cattle.
